Alan

Alan is a Chi Yoga School qualified instructor of Hatha Raja Yoga and his understanding of asana, pranayama and meditation is strongly influenced by the practice and philosophy of internal arts, in both the Buddhist and Taoist traditions.

Accidents and severe injury acted as the catalyst which brought him back to the path of Yoga, using it as a tool to alleviate his suffering and regain the freedom of functional movement. Not only has Yoga been hugely therapeutic with regards to injury but it has renewed the thirst for personal realization in his spiritual life. Obviously this has provided him with a strong appreciation of Yoga as therapy (Chikitsa).

Alan has also extensively studied Sports Coaching & Development in the outdoors, in the capacity as a skiing and kayaking instructor. This training has given him a good knowledge and understanding of training principles, with respect to the movement of the body and conditioning. Additional study and practice with internationally renowned teachers of Yoga and martial arts has furthered his passion to engage in an active dynamic way.

Alan’s experience as a teacher has led him to share practice with people of all ages and levels of ability. This ranges from working with the public on behalf of studios, clubs and leisure facilities in the Glasgow and Lanarkshire area and also individual fitness professionals.

His most notable appointment being to administer a sports specific flexibility routine for the senior level players of Glasgow Rangers Football Club. This was designed to educate players on how to stretch safely and with awareness, promoting injury prevention, quicker recovery times and peak performance.

Judi

What began as a class taken once a week in the local sports centre has become a passion and a way of life.

After starting a new job and enduring six months of sleepless nights Judi attended her first yoga class – an act of desperation. In a very short time her weekly yoga class worked its magic helping to alleviate stress and anxiety. Something just kept drawing her back to class week after week.

Further workshops and a growing awareness of self inspired Judi to seek to deepen her practice and understanding of yoga by enrolling in the Yoga Scotland Foundation Course. Gradually yoga became more than just something to be done in a weekly class.

On completion of the course Judi was so eager to continue her yoga journey she enrolled on CYS teacher training at Chi Yoga School, Glasgow.

It was this journey from pupil to fledgling teacher that ignited Judi’s enthusiasm for Ashtanga vinyasa yoga– the flow of breath and movement, the discipline of a challenging sequence and the respect & humility that comes from practicing in an ancient tradition. Also came the growing awareness that all are pupils and teachers both.

“It is an honour to be able to share my practice of yoga, and a privilege to help and support students on their own personal journey” - Judi Farrell

Judi has been practicing yoga for 12 years and has attended workshops given by some of today’s most inspiring yoga teachers including Manju Jois, David Swenson, David Keil, Paul Dallaghan, Matthew Sweeney, Sean Corne and Sarah Powers.
